A Federal High Court in Abuja has directed that summons be served on the Nigeria Police Force and others over the fundamental rights application by the Peace Corps of Nigeria.
Justice Gabriel Kolawole directed that the summons be also served on the Department of State Services (DSS), National Security Adviser (NSA), and the Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami (SAN) to appear to show cause why a restraining order should not be made against them.
The orders of the court followed an ex parte application by Kanu Agabi (SAN) praying the court to issue a restraining order against the security services from further harassing or arresting the members of the Corps and to unseal it’s National Headquarters in Abuja and other offices.
In the main suit, the Peace Corps is also asking the court to award the sum of N2 billion in damages over the “unlawful arrest and detention of its National Commandant, Ambassador Dickson Akoh and 49 others in an unlawful raid of the organization’s new Headquarters last week by a combined team of Police and the DSS.”
The suit is fixed for hearing on March 28.
