The Federal Character Commission (FCC) has said that there is no ‘Body of Commissioners’ or division within its management despite job racketeering and corruption allegations in the commission.
The FCC Chairman, Dr Muheeba Dankaka, who made this this in a statement reacting to a Daily Trust report on the matter insisted that peace and harmony have returned to the commission.
According to her, there is no association or group called ‘Body of Commissioners’ in the FCC, as the commission is a governmental entity with the Chairman, Commissioners, Secretary to the Commission, and the staff.
“The attention of the commission has been drawn to a publication in the Daily Trust Newspaper of Monday 18 December 2023 on the above subject matter purportedly written by ‘Body of Commissioners’.

“For over three years as alleged by these five aggrieved commissioners who have found it difficult to adapt to the transparent style of leadership of the Executive Chairman of the Commission, Dr. Muheeba Dankaka, many steps have been taken to make them see reasons but all to no avail,” she said in a statement signed by Dr. Chuks Okoli, the spokesman of the commission.
The FCC boss said that various governmental organs including Senate and House of Representatives Committees on Federal Character, Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF), and some well-meaning Nigerians had invited the aggrieved members to round table discussions where they tabled their grievances.
She said that after a series of discussions, some salient issues raised during the meeting were addressed, including the 37 operational committees reconstituted and over 600 MDAs distributed evenly among the committees with every commissioner heading a committee.
She said that the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume during his intervention appealed to the commissioners and the Executive Chairman to go back and work together peacefully.
“The Executive Chairman, ever since the meeting with SGF, Senator George Akume, has extended an olive branch to the aggrieved commissioners and a good number of them have retraced their steps and joined the Executive Chairman in her determination to move the commission forward leaving only five commissioners in the opposition,” the statement said.
She said that the purported signatories in support of the vote of no confidence in the report are an attendance list of the plenary meeting of the commission held in August 2023.
“This act is calculated to derail the peace already returning to the commission.
“We wish to assure the general public that genuine reconciliation is ongoing as directed by the SGF, Senator George Akume,” she said.
