The Director General of the Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution (IPCR), Dr Joseph Ochogwu, has threatened to withdraw the membership of inductees discovered to be involved in violent activities.

He handed down this threat at the 4th induction ceremony for membership of the Peace Institute (mpi) of the 2025 cohort of IPCR trainees of the National Peace Academy (NPA) in Abuja on Tuesday.

Dr Ochogwu said, “The membership is not an eternal thing. It is withdrawable when we discover that the conduct itself does not fit into that particular narrative of a member of the Peace Institute.

“By the training you’ve received, one would believe that you should be ambassadors of peace in your home.

“So, if you are a violent man who is involved in gender-based violence, and we get to know that you carry the MPI insignia, we will withdraw it.

“If in your workplace, there are provocations that you did not manage and it went into a fist-cuff and our attentions are drawn to it, we will investigate it and if we find that you’re guilty, we will withdraw it (membership).”

He said members of the Institute are expected to exhibit integrity, honesty, peacefulness, and a sense of inclusion, charging them not to discriminate against anybody on the grounds of religion, age, or gender.

Thirty new members were inducted at the ceremony.
