Peace & Unity Cup holds in Kano as NPFL kickoff postponed

Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL)

Following the postponement of the kickoff of the 2024 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season, the maiden Edition of Peace & Unity Cup Pre-season Tournament is set to commence in Kano.

Although the NPFL had announced that the new season would kickoff on September 9 with the official opening match to be played between 3SC and Plateau United in Ibadan, the league organisers on Wednesday said it was no longer possible for the season to commence as planned.

The postponement of the kickoff has however availed clubs the opportunity to put finishing touches to their preparations and the Unity Cup which starts this weekend appears to come at the right time.

According to the organisers, six NPFL clubs Kano Pillars, Niger Tornadoes, Katsina United, Gombe United, El-kanemi Warriors and Wikki Tourists FC will be taking part in the tournament.

The finals of the tournament which is going to last for one week will be held on September 13 at the Sani Abacha Stadium Kofar Mata, Kano.

Meanwhile, Niger Tornadoes and Gombe United departed their respective cities yesterday for Kano for the tournament.

Katsina United have concluded arrangements to hit Kano on Saturday.

The Technical Adviser of Tornadoes, Hamza Abara, welcomed the tournament as he said it would help the clubs to prepare adequately for the new NPFL season.

Niger Tornadoes are drawn against Abia Warriors in their opening match of the 2024 NPFL season.
