The National Executive Council (NEC) of the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) has vowed to confront all industrial issues with utmost seriousness now that the elections are over.

The union also warned companies “who think they are above Nigerian laws” to brace up as the association will explore all possible means to ensure no organisation undermines any provision of the country’s laws.

This was stated in a communique issued at the end of the meeting of the national executive council of the union recently in Lagos, signed by its president and national secretary, Francis Johnson and Lumumba Okugbawa, respectively.

The union, which called on the government to channel the human capital potential of Nigeria’s citizens towards optimising productivity and economic growth of the country, also called for more funding of its agencies in the petroleum industry.

“NEC-In-Session observes with dismay the attitudes of some organisations such as CISCON, SDF, Petrobras and Sterling oil who are engaged in modern day enslavement of workers; hence it urges the Federal Government through the Ministry of Labour and Employment to call these organisations to order to avoid an imminent industrial crisis in the sector,” it said.

PENGASSAN also demanded more funding and support of the recently released one billion dollars earmarked for fighting insurgency and acquisition of modern and sophisticated equipment for the various security agencies involved in providing adequate security for the country.
