Pension crisis: Police retirees ask NASS to disregard IGP’s plea

The Retired Police Officers of Nigeria (REPON) has appealed to the National Assembly (NASS) to disregard the Inspector General of Police’s plea of not supporting the retiree’s removal from the contributory pension scheme during the recent public hearing held by the National Assembly.

In a statement issued and signed by the secretary of Zone 1 (Kano) chapter of REPON, ASP Seidu Garba (rtd), the retired police officers said the IGP “isn’t a pensioner and therefore knows nothing about the plight under the contributory pension scheme.”

The statement said former IGP Mr. Solomon Arase wrote to President Muhammadu Buhari last year supporting the removal of the Nigeria Police from Pencom.

“We wish to categorically state here that the retired police officers all over the country are praying to be removed and treated under the same privileges and conditions given to the military and the DSS,” the statement said.
