A statement jointly signed by NUP President Dr Abel Afolayan and its General Secretary Elder Actor Zal, the union said government only paid nine out of 51 months’ arrears owed pensioners.
 The union corrected an earlier publication from its national headquarters putting the balance at 29 months, saying it was a miscalculation.
Stating that the total arrears owed pensioners were 51 months from July 2010 to September 2014, the union commended the federal government for its efforts but also appealed to it to fulfil its pledge to pay the remaining balance of 42 months as soon as the 2015 budget is passed.
