President of the union, Dr Abel Afolayan, who made this known yesterday at the commemoration of the 12th National Pensioners Day in Abuja, said the review was in line with the provisions of section 173(3) and 310(3) of the 1999 Constitution.
“What is good for the goose is also good for the gander as both the workers and pensioners go and buy from the same market,” he said.
The union also called for the payment of the 33.4 per cent pension arrears owed pensioners by the Federal Government, and another 142 per cent increase agreed with the state governments.
While decrying the politicisation of the appointment of a new Director General of Pensions Commission (Pencom), he said the union shall “resist the appointment of a politician with penchant for mismanagement and misappropriation of public funds.”
In her remarks, the Director General of Pension Transition Arrangement Department (PTAD), Ms Neille Misherk declared that the days of mismanagement of pension funds are over, adding that “systems and processes are being put in place to address all the problems you face.”
Also speaking, the Senate Committee Chairman on Establishment and Public Service, Aloysius Etuk said the senate is working on stiffer penalties for pension fraud in the country’s financial laws.
