I would like to express my sympathy for Bauchi state pensioners who are looking forward to having their pensions since February up to date in spite of fact that they had been verified. Those pensioners found themselves in an indescribable situation as a result of holding their pensions by Governor Abubakar in the name of verification.
It is important for governor Abubakar to know that 99.999% of these pensioners spend their entire pension for buying medicines. This is because most of them have been suffering from critical diseases such as Diabetes, Asthma, Paralysis/Paraplegia, Ulcer, Cancer, Coma and Arthritis. So, these pensioners are unable to carry out any job in order to obtain money so that they can buy their medicines. These pensioners are even unable to stand up and walk.
In addition, these pensioners had dedicated their lives for serving our state and they had also worked hard and sincerely. Some of these pensioners were lied down on beds because of their critical illnesses which made them incapable of coming out from their homes.
So many tears have been shed by me when a pensioner who has been suffering from Diabetes requested N1700 naira from me to buy Humalin 70/30 injection. Besides, on 10 April 2016, on my way to market I heard a girl’s voice asking me to buy her mobile phone. I asked her to let me know why she wants to sell her phone. The girl told me that she want to buy medicines for her father who has been suffering from Paralysis, Hypotension and Ulcer. I asked the girl to take to her father, when we entered his room I saw him lied down on his bed and tears comes down from his eyes. I greeted him and gave him N3000 naira; he collected the money and burst out crying. This is the pensioners’ situation in Bauchi State. And this situation brought about separation of many couples across Bauchi State in the name of ghost workers and verification.
Moreover, I was also told by one of those pensioners namely Malam Idi that he spends most of his pension for buying medicines because he is suffered by heart attack and Diabetes. When I asked him where he gets money which he buys his medicines? He told me that he usually sends his children to beg people on streets, and then he started crying.
