Pensioners in the country are  set to get six months arrears of the outstanding 12 months owed them from the 33 percent pension increment.

This is contained in a statement issued  by the General Secretary of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP), Comrade Actor Zal.

He said the decision was reached at a consultative meeting held by the Executive Secretary, Pension Transitional Administrative Directorate (PTAD), Barr. (Mrs) Sharon Ikeazor, with the NUP President, Dr Abel Afolayan, at the union’s headquarters in Abuja.

Zal said the PTAD boss assured the union that pensioners in the country would receive payment alert from Monday, December 3, 2018.

NUP had earlier given a 21-day ultimatum to the Federal Government to pay the 12 months arrears or face a nationwide protest and picketing of the Federal Ministry of Finance.

The PTAD boss said, the six months’ arrears to be paid to civilian pensioners amounted to N2.5bn while parastatals pensioners’ six months was N4.01bn, totaling N6.6bn.

She assured the union that PTAD would offset the remaining balance of six months immediately funds are made available to it.
