Onigbinde commended the company in Abeokuta last Friday at a reception organised for all the teams and officials participating in the U-17 Pepsi Football Tournament going on in the Ogun capital.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that three teams from Nigeria and one each from Ghana, Republic of Benin and Cote d’Ivoire are participating in the competition, which ends on Saturday.

Onigbinde said the football academy had helped to produce footballers of repute and contributed immensely to the development of football in Nigeria.

“If young players are nurtured well, they will take over from the ageing ones, thereby developing football to international standards.

“Pepsi Academy is the best and the only one we have in Nigeria now and they are doing a good job,’’ he said.

A former Ogun Commissioner for Sports, Chief Soniran Sowemimo, also commended the Director of the academy, Kasimawo Laloko, for putting together the competition.

Sowemimo urged parents to avail themselves of the opportunity provided by Pepsi and allow their wards to take part in the academy’s programmes.(NAN)
