Performance: Jonathan fires back at Obasanjo

Obasanjo had Friday during an encounter with book writers in Abeokuta, Ogun State, scored Jonathan low when asked of his view on his performance. “His performance is below average. I won’t accept responsibility for his performance”, Obasanjo had said.
But in a reaction last night, Jonathan, through his Senior Special Assistant on Public Affairs, Doyin Okupe, said Obasanjo’s comments were untrue, misleading and did not tally with the facts on ground.
Okupe claimed that in terms of achievements, since 1960, no administration had done as much as Jonathan had done, saying
“Every discerning and unbiased Nigerian will definitely attest to this fact as the evidence stare all of us in the face.”
He said contrary to the former president’s position, Jonathan’s administration had performed excellently, given the prevailing circumstances and resources available.
The presidential aide faulted Obasanjo’s comments by reeling out Jonathan’s administration’s achievements in key sectors of the economy.
He said the Federal Government was doing everything possible to end terrorism, saying sooner than later, Nigeria would win the war.
Okupe said Jonathan’s administration expanded the Nigerian political space by reforming the electoral system and ensuring genuine independence for the electoral body to ensure that the era of do-or-die politics ends in the country.
