The Dean of Clinical Medicine, Igbinedion University, Okada, Prof. Dominic Osaghae, says staff performance reward is critical to health care delivery in the country.
Prof Osaghae said this at the weekend at the 2nd annually staff productivity and performance reward day of the Department of Family Medicine/General Practice Clinic, University of Benin Teaching Hospital.
“Productivity award is very important in any organisation. Human resources are the most important input in any organisation. When human resource is not there, an organisation cannot work.
“UBTH is a very big organisation with many years of service in the health sector. Without human resources, there is no way UBTH can work.
“When the staff is satisfied, they are likely to do better in the office, they are likely to be more friendly and patient with their clients. It will reduce mortality rate, and morbidity rate and it will also increase IGR for the hospital,” he said.
Also speaking, the head of department, Dr. Osahon Enabulele, said the event was to commit themselves to the memory and legacies of their colleague, late Dr. Omoregie who died in November.
“What we are trying to promote through this programme is staff excellence and continuous improved productivity. We thought there was no any other person that exemplified that better than Dr. Jeffrey Omoregie.
“He showed extreme commitment to work, he was an excellent practitioner of medicine, he had cardinal values of integrity, honesty and was a complete team player.
The UBTH CMD, Prof. Darlington Obaseki, represented by Prof. Casmir Omuemum describe medical professionals as those who keep awake at night to keep people alive, and so, should be recognised and encouraged to do more.
“We have to use the little we have to achieve the maximum benefits. We cannot say that because we do not have everything, we will do nothing,” he said.
In his remarks, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Benin, Prof. Faradey Orumwense, represented by the Deputy VC (Academics), Prof. Michael Aziken, described the GPC department as the inroad into the hospital.
