The Federal University of Petroleum Resources (FUPRE) has been repositioned to commence post graduate programmes.

The Pro-Chancellor and Chairman, Governing Council of the institution, Prof Shehu Abdullahi Zuru, said FUPRE has scaled through the Nigerian Universities Commission (NUC) resources verification exercise. 

“We invited the NUC to come accredit the post graduate courses and they have already done the resources verification exercise. So far, the response we are getting, we are very hopeful that in no distant time, FUPRE will begin to run postgraduate programmes in all the courses.”

However, the pro-chancellor noted that the university, with 4,000 students, is in need of special interventions in the areas of infrastructure and recruitment of strategic staff to cater for its academic needs.

The Vice Chancellor, Prof Akaehomen O. Akii Ibhadode, said none of the federal agencies, such as the Petroleum Development Trust Fund (PTDF), Ministry of Petroleum Resources (MPR) among others, statutorily mandated to fund the university, has complied.

“None of them has so far complied with the funding mandate given to them. Though we have written to them but none of them has come on board. There’s a process and we see the need to do follow up visits on them,” the V-C stated.
