The Pharmacists Council of Nigeria (PCN) on Friday said it has sealed 650 premises comprising 62 pharmacies and 588 patent medicines vendors’ shops in Kaduna State for various infractions.

Addressing journalists in Kaduna, PCN’s Director of Enforcement, Stephen Esumbi, said 923 premises comprising 799 patent and proprietary medicines vendors shops and 124 pharmacists were visited.

He added that the enforcement exercise was one of the activities that the PCN has put in place to streamline the drug distribution system and improve the level of pharmaceutical services delivery to people of the state.

He explained that observations from the field revealed that owners of many patent medicine shops are engaged in the sale of medicines without regard to laid down guidelines.

He added that many of the patent medicine vendors in the state are either unregistered or registered but operating far beyond their approved scope.
