Presidential Aspirants of PSN Dr. Daniel Orumwense, Mr. Anthony Bola Oyewole, the moderator of the town hall session of the PSN, Mr. Lere Baale, the outgoing President, Ahmed Yakasai, other aspirants, Mazi Sam Ohuabunwa and Dr. Lolu Ojo during the unveiling of the vision 2050 document of the society as part of the annual conference holding at the University of Ibadan International Conference Centre, Ibadan, Oyo state.
The Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN) will elect a new President of the society who would take over the mantle of leadership from the outgoing President, Ahmed Ibrahim Yakasai.
The Annual General Meeting/election of new President and Chairman of Council, will be the climax of the weeklong 91st annual national conference of the society tagged, “Oluyole 2018” holding at the University of Ibadan International Conference Centre, Ibadan Oyo state.
No fewer than 5000 participants would elect new members of Council though the hotly contested position is that of the office of President and Chairman of Council.
Four aspirants are to slug it out in the contest including Dr. Daniel Orumwense, Mr. Anthony Bola Oyewole, Mazi Sam Ohuabunwa and Dr. Lolu Ojo.
Many stakeholders of the PSN have lauded the outgoing President for bequeathing an enduring legacy on the society.
President of Nigeria Academy of Pharmacy, a think-tank group of pharmacists, Prince Julius Adelusi-Adeluyi said Yakasai invested “very heavily” in the profession.
“I want to congratulate Yakasai for leading us successfully. He is a man with foresight, insight, hindsight and eyesight. He has employed all of these successfully. He has worked very hard for the society, he invested heavily in this profession.”
“Anybody who does good will always see good. Ahmed, You will always see good. He is forthright, upright and honest.”
Pharm. Remi Adeseun while reeling out the activities of PSN under Yakasai said the outgoing President came in and “elevated the office of the President to stratospheric heights.
“Yakasai is more than a legend. He transformed the landscape of pharmaceutical industry in Nigeria to an ICT driven industry”, he added.
The outgoing President had in his address at the conference, the last in his tenure in that capacity, said, “I don’t want to sound immodest or unnecessarily blow our trumpets, but I must say that we have kept our promises; we have served you and our noble profession with all our body, mind and soul.”
“I’ve sacrificed my time, businesses and comfort to make sure that the confidence reposed in me to lead our society is honoured. The last 36 months have been filled with challenges and achievements. I’ve listened to you, engaged you and communicated all our activities to you because I believe in transparency, accountability and sincerity.”
