Intern pharmacists at the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) screened some 300 residents of municipal Abuja for diabetes.

Secretary general of the Pharmacy Intern Association (NAFPIA) at NAFDAC, Izilein Davina, said the screening aimed to “boost awareness of diabetes, a growing silent killer in the world today.”

The screening lasted four hours at AMAC secretariat hall in Garki’s Area 10, using materials donated by two pharmacies and a clinic, in efforts to mark World Diabetes Day.

NAFPIA president Ndigwe Gerald said being aware of diabetes was “empirical to promotion of health and quality of life in the Nigerian population.

He said that emphasis had shifted from the conventional healthcare methods of symptomatic therapy to more holistic practices.
