They were arrested by operatives of the State Criminal Intelligence Bureau at about 4.30 p.m. on January 28, this year.
The Oyo Staet Commissioner of Police, Mr Baba Adisa Bolanta told journalists in Ibadan on Wednesday that an operative of the Criminal Intelligence Bureau on surveillance patrol in the area had accosted the suspects as they were taking away a roll of cable wire from PHCN installations in a bush along Apete area of Ibadan.
According to the police boss, the suspects quickly loaded the roll of cable wire into their waiting bus with registration no. Lagos EE52LND and sped off towards Adamasingba, Mokola area of Ibadan where the security operative got reinforcement and subsequently got the culprits arrested.
The commissioner of police who paraded the suspects and their exhibits to journalists at the Eleiyele state headquarters, disclosed that the suspects have since admitted to stealing the roll of cable wire, adding that they will soon be charged to court for trial.
Also paraded to newsmen was a 60-year-old man, Isaac Olubiyi of C.U.D. Apata area of Ibadan who was nabbed by the police operatives for raping an eight year old minor. Isaac Olubiyi was said to be a neighbour of the parents of his rape victim whom he allegedly raped when no one else was in the house with them.
Speaking with newsmen over the incident, the suspect however attributed the dastardly act to the “devil’s handiwork.”
The commissioner of police stated that he will soon be taken to court where rape charges would be slammed on him.
