A philanthropist in Benue State, Alhaji Abubakar Usman has begun construction of a 10-kilometre road for the people of Idah-Akor/Ipole-Akor in Orokam local government area of the state.
Usman popularly known as Young Alhaji said that he embarked on the project which will cover six communities to assuage the suffering of the people.
The road will link the communities to the major Ukwo-Orokam market on the border of Benue and Enugu States.
“I have passion to help the community. It is my nature. It’s a dual carriage with streetlights. On completion, I will provide electricity for the villages along the road.
“There is no political undertone to the project because there is no election now,” he said.
The former chieftain of All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state before formally leading his supporters to join the Accord Party (AP) following unresolved crisis in the APC noted that the project has no political undertone.
According to Usman, the first phase of the project awarded to a company known as AJN costs him N70 million and more fund will be released at the later stage of work.
The site engineer, John Enemali told Daily Trust that work had commenced in earnest with the removal of obstacles such as trees and houses on the corridor mapped out for the road and expressed confidence that the job will be completed in six months.
