A 300-level student at Bayero University, Kano (BUK), Umar Abdullahi Hafizi, has been stabbed to death by suspected phone snatchers.
The incident occurred at his residence in Dorayi Quarters, Gwale Local Government Area of Kano State, according to a statement from the university.
Though the attack happened off-campus, it has deeply saddened the university community.
Lamara Garba Azare, the university’s Director of Public Affairs, described the death as a “painful loss.”
He stated that the university is “working closely with security agencies to ensure that those responsible for this heinous act are apprehended and made to face the full wrath of the law.”
The university’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sagir Adamu Abbas, reiterated the administration’s commitment to the safety and well-being of all students.
The university has also urged students to remain calm and vigilant and called on the public to assist with any useful information to aid the ongoing investigation.
Hafizi’s body was taken to his hometown in Zaria, Kaduna State, for burial according to Islamic rites.
This incident comes as many residents are supporting “Operation Kukan Kura,” a police initiative launched to combat armed phone snatchers who have been terrorizing the state.
