In celebration of China’s 70th anniversary and its 48th anniversary relating with Nigeria, the China Cultural Centre, Abuja, organized a photography competition which culminated in an exhibition of about 150 works.
The exhibition, which Mr. Li Xuda, Cultural Counselor said will become an annual event, featured works from professional and amateur photographers who took over 400 pictures using their cameras and mobile devices, from 25 states of the country.
The photographers entered works under three categories, including one on nature, natural sights, scenes and sceneries of Nigeria. The second category was on humanity, images relating to both Nigerians and Chinese alike. The third was on China/Nigeria relationship for images depicting the development of China/Nigeria relationship and showing that the relationship is beneficial to both nations.
Jide Joseph, Programmes Officer at the Centre, said a panel of seven juries comprising four Nigerians and three Chinese, including Xuda, decided on the winning pictures.
He said, “For each category, there were first winners. For the nature we had three people in third position, two in second position and one person in first position. Same thing was repeated for the other categories. The winners won different prizes ranging from multimedia bluetooth speakers to Huawei Y9 mobile phones and Lenovo laptops.”
There were also two special winners, including Abuja-based Julius Omogbai, who were given slots to go to China. They will also be photographing while there, and will exhibit their works upon returning to Nigeria.
One of the winners, Godswill Ayemoba, said, “The image I submitted represents a complete chain of symbols of both Nigeria and China. The Green White Green of the Nigerian flag and the red dominated flag of the Chinese, sat at the top of the winning image. There was an invitingly painted seat with the Nigerian national colours, covering a good part of it. All of this was complimented by the view of the surrounding environment show-casing nature at its best, as can be found in both countries.”
Daily Trust photographer, Sani Maikatanga, was also one of the winners for his Durbar photograph.
The nine-day exhibition which is currently showing at the Cultural Centre ends on October 16.
