The 16th Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, on Sunday led the Hawan Nasarawa Durbar at the Government House in Kano, as part of the Eid-el-Fitr celebrations.
Speaking during the event, Emir Sanusi commended the Kano State Government for the recognition and honour accorded to the emirate.
“We appreciate the honour and recognition being given to us by the Kano State Government,” the emir said.
He emphasised the need for unity among the people, calling on all groups to avoid actions capable of causing tension or division in the state.

The emir also prayed for continued peace and stability in Kano and the country at large, urging citizens to remain law-abiding and supportive of efforts aimed at maintaining harmony.
On his part, the Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, called on residents to maintain peace and unity during the Sallah celebrations.
The governor, represented by the Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, Ismail Jibril Falgore, described the Durbar as a cherished cultural tradition that reflects the rich heritage, unity and identity of the people.
He also commended residents for their continued support, cooperation and commitment to peaceful coexistence, noting that their role remained vital to the success of the administration.
“As we celebrate, I call on all citizens to avoid any action that could threaten the peace and stability of our state. We must continue to uphold the values of tolerance, mutual respect and harmonious coexistence,” he said.
He urged parents and guardians to guide their children and ensure they conduct themselves responsibly throughout the festive period.
Yusuf assured residents of the government’s commitment to the protection of lives and property, adding that adequate security measures had been put in place to ensure a peaceful celebration.
Daily Trust reports that the governor was absent at the event as he travelled to Lagos for a Progressive Governors Forum meeting, according to his spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa.
Those in attendance included the Secretary to the State Government, commissioners, local government chairmen and other top officials.
