Pilgrims Board boss seeks better package for workers

Addressing journalists in his office, Kofar Mata said as a show of solidarity for Nigerian workers in celebrating May Day, Nigerians should appreciate the role played by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), in keeping the country united.

The D-G observed that the achievements so far recorded in the country since independence are as a result of the activities of the organised labour as they steadfastly refused to compromise their stance on nation building.

He noted that as a product of Nigerian labour for about 35 years, he has enjoyed life as a worker. “The story of Kano branch of the Nigeria Labour Congress has remained a success upon success since our days,” said the D-G.

The Director General who expressed confidence in the leadership of the Kano NLC for its understanding and support for the policies and programmes of the present administration in the state,    urged the union to sustain the tempo to champion the cause of the common man.

He said governments at all levels should reciprocate workers’ contributions to the overall development of the society through improved and realistic pay package, pointing out that workers’ agitation for a  new minimum wage was justifiable in view of the current hike in the prices of essential goods and services.

While stressing the expedience of the “dependable package”, Alhaji Kofar Mata called on the three tiers of government to always put the welfare of workers above any other interest.
