When I heard the announcement that refund for services not rendered would be made to all those who participated in the 2015 hajj, I was not sure I heard right. This is because no organisation, especially in Nigeria, voluntarily makes refund for services not rendered.
I took the announcement with a pinch of salt until I got to the Igabi pilgrims’ office located in Rigachikun along Zaria road, and I was paid N21, 000 after my passport and ID card were verified.
With that action, I will say the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) has taken accountability to a new level. The action demonstrated that pilgrims now get value for their money.
With this development, hajj operation in the country has truly metamorphosed into a well organized and transparent exercise. I commend NAHCON for making us proud and setting the pace in transparent management of public resources.  I urge the organization to sustain the tempo.
