Kano Pillars’ miserable run in the 2025/2026 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season continued after they were defeated 0-2 by Wikki Tourists in the Week 22 match played yesterday at the Tafawa Balewa Stadium Bauchi.
Before Sunday’s defeat, Pillars had lost 0-1 in their week 21 home match with Abia Warriors, which left them second from the bottom of the table with a paltry 22 points.
Unfortunately, any hope for immediate resurgence was dashed as Wikki Tourists scored in each half of yesterday’s match to claim the maximum points as Pillars remain unmoved on the table.
Abubakar Taheer broke the deadlock for Wikki Tourists in the fourth minute of first half added time while Klinshak Longbak scored the winning goal in the 71st minute of the match.
Despite the victory, Wikki Tourists are still in relegation waters with 23 points, one more than Pillars, but both teams have one outstanding match.
In Maiduguri, El-Kanemi Warriors laboured to a slim 1-0 win over fourth placed Ikorodu City, while Barau FC fought back to draw 1-1 with Bayelsa United at the Sani Abacha Stadium Kano.
At the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Rangers whipped Warri Wolves 4-1 as experienced strikers, Godwin Obaje, and Chimobi Igwilo, each recorded a brace in the massive win at “the Cathedral.”
In Minna, Niger Tornadoes edged former African champions, Enyimba 2-0. Abdulrasheed Dabai opened the scoring for the “Ikon Allah” boys in the 67th minute while Rickson Mendos sealed the win in the 89th minute.
Elsewhere, Bendel Insurance’s unbeaten run ended in Ibadan where Qamar Adegoke found a late winner for 3SC to pocket the maximum points at the Lekan Salami Stadium.
Meanwhile, Nasarawa United recovered from the painful 1-0 home loss to Kano Pillars in week 20 to record the only away win of week 22 as they shocked Abia Warriors 2-1 in Umuahia.
The match between defending champions, Remo Stars, and debutants Kun Khalifat, has been rescheduled for today in Ikenne.
