Yusuf is expected to sign his contract with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) on Monday.

Pillars chairman, Tukur Babangida, told MTNFootball.com that he desires a fulltime head coach and once Yusuf’s employment as second assistant coach to Samson Siasia, assistant coach Ganaru will be given the chance to lead the team.

“He (Ganaru) has been with the team for three years now and so this could well be the chance he needs to show us what he is capable of. We will therefore give him the chance,” said Babangida.

“I do not subscribe to a part-time head coach and that is why we have to go in this direction.”

In the meantime, Kano Pillars plan to improve their squad ahead of the CAF Champions League campaign later this month by signing a central defender.

Pillars, who reached the semi-final of the 2009 Champions League, will face Mighty Barolle of Liberia away in Monrovia on January 29 as they begin another quest for international glory.

Club boss Babangida told MTNFootball.com that he has a settled squad but would very much wish to sign a central defender.

“We’re really looking for a quality central defender, but at the same time we will not break the bank for such a player. We could pay about three million naira for such a player,” Babangida revealed.

“But overall we are satisfied with the other departments of the team. Our goalkeeper (Sani Haliru) has been unbanned and so we do not have any problems there again.”

Wasiu Showemimo, Maurice Chigozie, Kabiru Baleria and Ikechukwu Gabriel are the centre-halves at the Kano club.
