A group under the aegis of Concerned Niger Delta Group (CNDG) has said that the pipeline surveillance contract awarded to Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited, has brought sustained peace to Niger Delta region, especially the oil facilities.

The group appealed to the Federal Government to renew the contract, to sustained the peace and hard-won gains in Nigeria’s oil-producing region.

This was contained in a statement signed by by Comrade Ebilade Oroupa (National President), Comrade Sunday Torugbene (Vice President), Chief Stanley Freebon, and Kingsley Young respectively.

According to them, the advantages of protecting oil facilities far outweigh any perceived disadvantages, noting that since the commencement of the surveillance, crude oil production has increased tremendously.

“The surveillance efforts has helped boost oil production from as low as 700,000 barrels per day to over 2 million barrels daily”

According to them, the delay in renewing the contract was already encouraging oil theft cartels to regroup.

They noted that the surveillance had empowered youths across various ethnic groups of Urhobo, Ijaw, Itsekiri, Isoko, and Igbo helping to drastically curb sea piracy and illegal bunkering.

“This job has created opportunities for thousands of youths across the region. With youths now positively engaged, peace has returned,” they said.

They said as a result of the pipeline protection by the security service which has greatly reduced oil bunkery leading to noticeable environmental improvements, including cleaner rivers, revive aquatic life, and restore livelihoods for farmers and fishermen.

“We urge President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and other relevant agencies to immediately renew the Tantita contract in the nation’s interest”
