For instance, there’s been a release of Brad Pitt’s ‘12 Years A Slave’, a historical drama based on the true story of Solomon Northup, an African-American man who was deceived and sold into slavery after living as a free man in New York.
Pitt is producing the feature in addition to starring in it alongside Chiwetel Ejiofor (‘Salt’, ‘American Gangster’), who portrays Northup.
The movie, directed by Steve McQueen, is adapted from Northup’s 1853 narrative of the same name. The widely read book details how the author went from being a married, educated free black man living in New York to being captured and sold after traveling to Washington, D.C. under the pretense of a job offer.
‘12 Years A Slave’, which also stars Michael Fassbender, Benedict Cumberbatch, Quvenzhané Wallis and Alfre Woodard, is expected to open in limited release on October 18.
