The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the March 18 election in Plateau State, Nentawe Yilwatda, has filed an appeal challenging the judgement of the election petition tribunal which dismissed his petition for lacking in merit.

The APC candidate had challenged the declaration of Governor Caleb Mutfwang of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) as winner of the March 18 election on grounds that the PDP does not have a structure and therefore not qualified to field a candidate for an election. 

He added that there was over-voting during the election and asked the tribunal to declare him winner. But the tribunal dismissed his petition for lacking in merit.

In the notice of appeal filed by his lawyer, Professor Kayode Olatoke (SAN), the APC candidate claimed that the tribunal in striking out his witnesses’ statements on oath and documents presented, was in breach of his right to fair hearing and fair trial, adding that there was miscarriage of justice by the governorship election tribunal.
