The International Rescue Committee (IRC) has disturbed relief items consisting of dignity kits for women and children and other non-food items to over 500 households affected by the recent conflict in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State.

Daily Trust on Sunday reports that crises, mostly between farming communities and pastoralists, have destroyed many communities in Mangu Local Government Area, where many people were killed and thousands, including children and women, displaced.

EH WASH Hygiene Promotion Officer and IRC Nigeria Emergency Team Co-Lead, Alosa Geoffrey Atiko, during the distribution of the relief items in Mangu, said the IRC’s assistance extended beyond the provision of non-food and dignity items.

He said the organisation was also actively involved in infrastructure projects, including the construction of boreholes and toilets to ensure improved hygiene and health for the displaced population.

“We are currently constructing four motorised solar boreholes to assist displaced persons in Mangu with their water needs. We are also constructing four emergency latrines with five compartments to improve sanitary conditions,” he added.

Also speaking, the Economic Recovery and Development (ERD) manager for the IRC, Ilyasu Shehu, revealed that IRC’s intervention encompassed unconditional cash transfers to benefit an additional 500 households, with each household receiving over N100,000 per month for a period of three months.
