The Anguwan Rogo community in Jos North LGA of Plateau State has lamented over six years of electricity failure in the area, saying it has cost them huge losses, setbacks, destruction of electrical appliances, among other things.

Speaking with City & Crime, the Councillor of Anguwan Rogo/Anguwan Rimi Ward, Sultan Mohammed, said the issue had lingered and had become pathetic and frustrating.

Mohammed said they had made several moves to the Jos Electricity Distribution Company (JEDC) to no avail.

He explained that, “The basic electricity problem in our community is due to the transformer at the Madara Junction of Anguwan Rogo not working in its full operational capacity as a result of lack of some elements or properties in a transformer that would make it work effectively.

“This has made the transformer unable to service the community at the same time and therefore made electricity lines to be dropping at all times. That means if one line or phase is having electricity supply, other phases cannot have supply and will remain in the dark for days.

“As a result, the area has suffered untold hardship over these years. In addition to the loss of businesses and perishable food items, we have also suffered insecurity due to constant darkness and activities of criminals, as well as risks arising from other parties coming to tamper with the transformer in their quest to search for light for their areas.’’

When contacted, JEDC’s Head of Corporate Communications, Friday Adakole Elijah, said the Anguwan Rogo community should channel their problem through their area office or region and that it would be treated accordingly.

He added that they should not despair as it was the company’s wish to distribute electricity accordingly, explaining that it was the amount of energy they got that they distributed to the four states under its operation: Plateau, Bauchi, Gombe and Benue.
