Title chasing Plateau United have closed the gap on leaders Rivers United after they edged Kano Pillars 1-0 in the 2022 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) season week 32 match played yesterday at the New Jos stadium.

The solitary strike by Jesse Akila in the 38th minute was enough for Plateau United to cut Rivers United lead at the top to seven points.

Rivers United who had beaten Plateau United 2-0 in week 31 to open a 10 point gap were yesterday defeated 1-0 by Wikki Tourists in Bauchi.

In Okigwe, Abia Warriors topped Rangers 2-0 with Paul Sampson and Valentine Odo scoring a goal each in the first half for the convincing ‘Oriental derby’ victory.

Elsewhere, Sikiru Alimi’s spectacular header helped Remo Stars beat 10-man Gombe United 1-0 in Ikenne, Dakkada’s Emmanuel Ayaosi and Aniekan Ekpe scored in each half of the match for a convincing 2-0 win over 3SC in Uyo but Akwa United were turned back 1-0 by relegation-threatened Heartland in Owerri.

In Ilorin, Issa Gata opened the scoring for Kwara United in the 31st minute before returnee Junior Lokosa doubled the lead nine minutes from regulation time for the ‘Afonja Warriors’ to beat Katsina United 2-0 just as Nasarawa United fell 1-2 at Sunshine Stars.

At the Ahmadu Bello stadium Kaduna, Niger Tornadoes also eased their relegation worries with a 2-1 win over giants Enyimba.

Munir Idris put Tornadoes ahead in the 31st minute but five minutes later, Chukwuemeka Obioma levelled scores for the visitors before Musa Wakili won the maximum points for the hosts from the spot in the first half added minutes.

Meanwhile, Lobi Stars produced the best result of week 32 after they forced resurgent MFM to a 0-0 draw in Ijebu-Ode.

The ‘Pride of Benue’ failed to end MFM’s unbeaten run since their revival but ended as the only visiting team that didn’t lose yesterday.
