Plateau Government says henceforth, it will prosecute builders of illegal speed bumps on state roads.
Mr Pam Dongs, Commissioner for Works and Transport gave the hint in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Jos.
He noted that many individuals had resorted to building speed bumps on state roads without permission from relevant authorities, adding that such illegal action would attract sanction.
According to Dongs, speed bumps are meant to be used in residential streets, to curb excessive speed by motorists and generally to help motorists be more aware of their environment and drive with caution.
He said that there were laws governing the use of bumps and also specifications for its designs.
Dongs further said an unplanned or illegal speed breaker could be very dangerous as it could slow the movement of emergency vehicles like ambulances, police security vehicles and fire trucks.
‘’There are so many dangers associated with illegal speed bumps, it can cause traffic congestion, increase air pollution, the impact can be harmful for the sick, the elderly and pregnant women in transit, ‘’ he said.
He advised any person in need of speed bump to consult relevant authorities and obtainapproval before building such structure to avoid prosecution.(NAN)
