Plateau Killings: Zazzaga Raises Concerns Over Possible Political Implications

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Saleh Zazzaga, has raised concerns that the renewed violence in Plateau State may have political implications ahead of the 2027 general elections.

More than 20 persons were reportedly killed in a Palm Sunday attack in Gariya Waye, Angwan Rukuba community in Jos North Local Government Area. The incident has heightened fears of a resurgence of violence in the state.

In a statement made available to journalists on Monday, Zazzaga said the pattern of insecurity in Plateau and neighbouring Benue State could have broader implications for political stability in the North-Central region.

He suggested that the situation may affect public perception of governance and security, particularly as political activities gradually build up toward the next general elections.

Zazzaga also noted the recent political developments in Plateau State, including shifts in party alignment, and said such changes could heighten political tensions if not carefully managed.

He called on security agencies to intensify efforts to restore peace and bring perpetrators of the attacks to justice, stressing that safeguarding lives must remain the top priority.

The APC chieftain further urged political actors, community leaders, and religious figures to exercise restraint in their public statements and avoid actions that could deepen divisions or escalate tensions.

He also appealed to residents of Plateau and surrounding states to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies in efforts to maintain peace.
