Plateau LG chair raises alarm over fake drugs in Langtang

The chairman of Langtang North Local Government Council in Plateau State, Pirfa Jingfa Tyem, has raised fresh concerns over what he described as the proliferation of fake and substandard medicines in his local government area.
Tyem made this known while speaking shortly after he was decorated as the Battalion Grand Patron of the Boys’ Brigade of Nigeria at the Church of Christ in Nations (COCIN) RCC Headquarters, Kuffen, in Langtang North on Sunday.
Tyem, who described himself as a victim, said all efforts have been put in place to address the problem.
He said: “So far, our supervisory councillor for Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene has briefed me on their efforts. He told me that they are going about their duties to identify such places in the area. They have confiscated a cache of fake drugs. Some few months ago, I was sick and all the drugs administered to me did not work because they were fake. I am lucky that the fake drugs I took did not affect any of my vital organs.

“My administration is doing everything possible to revamp the health sector in the state, and anyone found selling counterfeit drugs in the council will be dealt with. The health of our people cannot be taken for granted; hence, we are making the sector, as well as education, a priority.”
