A coalition of concerned Muslims in Plateau State has distanced itself from recent comments made by the Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC), describing them as inciting and misrepresentative of the true situation in the state.

In a statement signed by Alhaji Mohammed Adamu, the group expressed “utter disbelief and deep concern” over the statement by MURIC’s Executive Director, Prof. Ishaq Akintola, which accused Governor Caleb Mutfwang of marginalising Muslims in the state.

The coalition said the claims were false and did not reflect the realities on the ground, adding that Akintola’s remarks were “laced with venom and devoid of facts.”

“As Muslims who live, work, and raise families on the Plateau, we can attest that under Governor Mutfwang, a fresh breeze of inclusion, respect, and peaceful coexistence has been blowing across the land,” the group said.

According to the statement, Muslims in Plateau have benefitted from government appointments, infrastructure projects, and organised pilgrimages under the current administration.

It added that the state chapter of Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI) enjoys direct access to the governor, noting that issues affecting the Muslim community are addressed through dialogue and mutual respect.

The group warned Akintola to desist from meddling in Plateau affairs, describing his intervention as an attempt “to set fire to the house while pretending to pour water.”

“We advise Prof. Akintola to steer clear of Plateau affairs, lest he becomes the fly that follows the corpse into the grave,” the statement read.

The coalition urged Muslims nationwide to disregard MURIC’s statement and pledged continued support for Governor Mutfwang, whom they described as fair, just and inclusive.

They reaffirmed their commitment to peaceful coexistence and the progress of the state.
