Pensioners in Plateau State have decried the non-review of their monthly allowances by the pension managers in the state for over two decades.

In an exclusive interview with Daily Trust in Jos, the pensioners said though they were receiving their monthly pension regularly, there hadn’t been any increments in their pension as stipulated by law, saying the development was affecting their lives considering the current economic reality in the country.

They said pensions had not been increased for years, explaining that the pension law stated that after every five years, their monthly allowances were expected to be reviewed upward, but pension managers had refused to follow the law in the state.

Kabiru Musa Sati, a pensioner in the state, told Daily Trust that “we are not owed by  the government as regards to our monthly pension, but we have other problems with the government. For the past 20 years, our pension hasn’t been reviewed.

“Imagine still receiving N19 000. How can such an amount be sufficient to feed the family at this time? Some of us haven’t been paid our gratuity.”

Corroborating,  the State Secretary of the Nigerian Union of Pensioners, Comrade Bulus Ibrahim, also said though the government had been consistent in terms of monthly allowances, they had other issues which have not been solved by the government for many years.
