The Plateau State government has expressed its plans to partner with the Federal Housing Authority (FHA) to construct smart housing units in the city centre of Jos, the state capital, to ease the accommodation problem being faced by civil servants.
Speaking with newsmen after meeting with the delegation from the Federal Housing Authority (FHA) led by Hauwa Babakobi, the state Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, Hon. Joshua Ubandoma Laven, said the housing scheme would provide affordable accommodation for low, middle, and high-income earners,
The commissioner who represented the state governor, Caleb Mutfwang, said the construction of the Jos Smart Housing Estate is a project that is the administration’s top priority, and that is why the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development has engaged FHA to actualise the project.
“The project when completed would curb insecurity, provide employment opportunities for the productive unemployed youths that are roaming the streets as well as encourage communal living. Housing plays a crucial role in promoting social stability in society.

“Again, affordable housing plays a crucial role in improving the lives of individuals and families, fostering social stability, and contributing to the overall well-being of the people,” he said.
Laven also revealed that the state government’s representatives also met with the country’s Regional Representative of Shelter Afrique, Mrs Elizabeth Ogonegbu, and her team to help in providing the developer with a one-digit interest loan.
He said Shelter Afrique, a Pan-African finance institution, is exclusively supporting the development of affordable housing and real estate sector in African countries, hence the need to involve them.
