A Mobile Sanitation Court convicted 22 offenders during the monthly environmental sanitation exercise conducted by the Plateau State Environmental Protection and Sanitation Agency (PEPSA) on Saturday in Jos North Local Government Area.
The agency also warned that illegal structures obstructing drainage channels would be demolished if owners failed to remove them.
PEPSA decried widespread environmental violations, including indiscriminate refuse dumping and the construction of kiosks and shops on drainage channels, describing the practices as major causes of flooding and disease outbreaks.

The sanitation exercise, which featured house-to-house inspections, drainage clearance and enforcement, covered Gadan Bako, Nasarawa Filing Ball, Kongo-Russia and Yan Tire Junction.

Addressing journalists after monitoring the exercise, the Director of Administration, Mr. Izang Pate, who represented the Director-General of PEPSA, Mr. Samuel Dapiya, said the agency recorded poor compliance in several parts of Jos North despite sustained public enlightenment campaigns.
