The Joint Union of Plateau State Owned Tertiary Institutions (JUPTI) has embarked on indefinite strike.
The union said that it embarks on the strike following the elapse of seven days ultimatum given to the Plateau state government to pay all outstanding and withheld salaries on or before 31 August, 2018 without response from the government.
The union in a statement jointly signed by its Chairman, Paul Dakol and Secretary, Solomon Ayum also explained that during the strike all academic and administrative activities would be suspended until demands of the unions are met.
“No staff shall receive any directive from any quarter except from JUPTI,” the statement added.
On a visit to Plateau state Polytechnic (PlaPloy) – one of the state owned tertiary institutions by Daily Trust it observed that the school was under lock and key.
Daily Trust also observed that the main gate of the school was locked and hundreds of students were outside grumbling.
One of the students who spoke to Daily Trust on the condition of anonymity urged government to meet the unions’ demands in order to enable the students continue with their studies.
