The Joint Unions of Plateau State Owned Tertiary Institutions (JUPTI) has suspended the indefinite strike embarked upon on last Monday.
JUPTI announced the suspension of the strike yesterday (Thursday) following an agreement signed between the Plateau state government and the leadership of the unions.
The state government was represented by Head of Service, Izam Azi and the unions represented by its Chairman, Paul Dakol and Secretary, Solomon Ayum.
It recalled that the unions embarked on an indefinite strike following the end of seven-days ultimatum given to the state government to pay all outstanding and withheld salaries it inherited from the previous administration on or before 31st August, 2018 but government failed to respond before the end of the ultimatum.
In an agreement signed by both parties stated that JUPTI and the state government held series of meetings aimed at resolving the impasse.
The agreement added that government pledged to address the problems associated with transmission of withheld salaries and pledged that all issues of omissions in respect of withheld salaries should be resolved within the shortest time.
In a release issued yesterday by the union after the agreement was signed, JUPTI announced that it herby suspended the strike action with effect from 6th September 2018 and directed all its members to resume work immediately.
The Union asked the state government not to victimize whoever participated in the strike.
