The Plateau State government has intercepted traffickers who have lured underaged children from Langtang South Local Government area of the state.

Confirming the incident, the Plateau State Commissioner for Women Affairs, Hon. Caroline Panglang Dafur, stated that the victims were rescued at the Lagos Park in Jos. One suspect was arrested at the scene.

The commissioner explained: “Underage Tarok children from Langtang South LGA were intercepted at a Lagos park in Jos, destined to be ‘waybilled’ to Lagos to work for an unknown madam.

“Trafficker trailed and arrested by the Plateau State Joint taskforce on trafficking. Mrs Manwor Ayuba has been arrested by the Plateau State Joint Taskforce following the interception of the underaged children. Child labour and exploitation is a crime on the Plateau, “the commissioner said.

Hon. Dafur however called on the residents of the state to vigilante and report any suspicious movements of traffickers to security forces to get rid of the menace in the state.

Speaking further on the incident, the Personal Assistant to the commissioner, Alfred Ndam, said the arrested suspect is in the custody of the government, adding that the parents must face sanction for parental negligence.

“The parents must face sanctions for parental negligence because these children were being trafficked without them knowing. They are supposed to be aware of the whereabouts of their children and their movement. So, the children are going to be in government custody. The commissioner is talking with some partners to take them in for educational scholarships, “Ndam added.
