Disclosing this during the 2014 budget breakdown in Jos, the state Commissioner for Finance Mr Davou Mang said the general hospitals that would take the place of the cottage hospitals in Angware, Dyerok and Kwalla would each be of 60-bed capacity and would have staff quarters and perimeter fencing.
Other major projects contained in the 2014 budget estimates for the health sector as announced by the commissioner include the completion\expansion of each of the general hospitals in Riyom, Mabudi, and Kwal at the cost of N1.2 billion and upgrading to 60-bed capacity and general renovation of the general hospitals in Angware, Dengi and Tunkus at N504.5 million.
Still to be done under the total health care budget of N11.5 billion for the 2014 fiscal year include procurement of medical equipment and furnishing of secondary healthcare facilities in the state at N5 billion, renovation of General Hospital Shendam at N362 million, construction\renovation of Plateau Specialist Hospital, Jos, at N320 million; and renovation\construction of General Hospital, Barkin Ladi at N241.5 million.
The health sector gets the third highest budgetary allocation from the 2014 budgetary provisions of Plateau State with N11.5 billion, after Works and Transport (N38 billion) and Education (N19.9 billion). The enitire budget is N225 billion, made up of N143 billion for capital expenditure and N82 billion for recurrent expenditure.
