Plateau United’s Technical Adviser, Gbenga Ogunbote, has described Sunday’s 0-1 defeat to Nasarawa United as a “big setback” and said the team must refocus to avoid relegation on the final day of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).

Speaking after the Matchday 37 North-Central derby, Ogunbote said expectations were high but the result did not go as desired.

“Expectations are high and you do not get it the way you wanted, and this is just one of the cases. It’s a big setback for us. We just have to go back and do everything to make sure we avoid the drop,” he said.

Plateau United sit delicately on 47 points with one game remaining.

Ogunbote said the team would give its best in the final fixture, noting that all clubs still have a chance to change their positions.

“We’ll do our best. Everybody has a game to go, and that is an equal chance to everyone. We started it good and sometimes we lost it somehow, somewhere.

“Now all we need to do is go back to winning ways. We have a game to redefine our position in the Premier League,” he stated.

Ogunbote, who was brought in to stabilize the team mid-season, said the results since his arrival showed progress, but lapses late in the campaign had cost the “Peace Boys.”
