For guiding Plateau United to the continent in his first season as Technical Adviser of Plateau United, dynamic and energetic gaffer, Fidelis Ilechukwu, has been honoured with a grassroot football competition.

Organized by the supporters club of Plateau United, the competition tagged Coach Fidelis Ilechukwu Football Tournament will feature 16 teams from Jos and environs. 

The Chairman Plateau United supporters club, Umar Shehu, has said the essence of the competition is to honour Ilechukwu for his hard work, dedication and commitment to duty which has propelled the team to finish second and win a continental ticket in the 2022 NPFL season.

He added that apart from guiding Plateau United to win a continental ticket, the coach had demonstrated uncommon love for members of the supporters club, especially the less privileged ones among them.

“We are really happy with him because he has been supporting us morally and financially since he assumed work here last year and we feel we have to appreciate him by naming this tournament after him,” he said.

An elated Ilechukwu who expressed gratitude to the members of the supporters club for the honour done to him, commended them for the show of love, passion and commitment to the club.

He also lauded the General Manager, Pius Henwan and the Technical Director, Ahmed Ibrahim ‘Bros’ for their unflinching support as he described the duo as the best in the NPFL.

The competition which kicked off on Thursday at the Rwang Pam stadium will be staged at three other designated centres in the city of Jos.
