The Academic Staff Union of Nigerian Universities (ASUU), Plateau State University (PLASU), Bokkos chapter, has decried what they termed a discriminatory and unlawful policy adopted by the university management in the payment of last month’s (October) salary to the staff.
The lecturers, in a statement by ASUU Chairman and Secretary, Dr Monday Hassan Zitta and Deme Bitrus, respectively explained that while the non-academic staff received their salaries, the academic staff were excluded.
The statement said the discriminatory approach adopted by the management raises concern about the university’s commitment to fair labour practices and the general welfare of its academic workforce.
It said the management’s action runs contrary to Section 17(3) of the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, which prohibits discrimination of Staff on any ground in the workplace, and that citizens of Nigeria must not be subjected to any form of deprivation.
