In practice this can occur at any stage of the criminal trial that is, either prior to court trial or at any stage of the court trial but certainly before the verdict is given. Plea bargain was mentioned during the trial of a former Inspector General of Police Tafa Balogun.

It is important that we all support the EFCC in its use of this legal strategy. Plea bargaining is surely better than fruitless trial. Our statutory law will be the better for it if we throw our support to the EFCC on this initiative.
