I wish to appeal to the Directorate of Vehicle Inspection of the FCT to reconsider its decision to crush thousands of motorcycles it seized from those that contravened the ban of commercial motorcycle operation in the city centre.

Rather, the motorcycles should be returned to their owners who should be made to pay a fine.

Crushing such items is a waste of resources and would serve no purpose. It is agreed that the violators of the ban did a wrong thing but the measure taken by the directorate is equally faulty and not the best.

The majority of the owners are poor and strive to make ends meet. Let us implement the law they violated with a human face.

Money realised from such fines could be used to provide services to FCT residents, while the violators would have been seen to fully serve their punishment.
