I wish to appeal to the federal government to approve the recruitment of more policemen to enable the force to become more effective in tackling the prevailing insecurity in the country. Though the government appears to be approving state and local government police, another way of containing the insecurity situation is to have more men of the force on the ground for deployment to hot spots. Development and economic growth cannot thrive amidst insecurity, especially as foreign investors would not find it comfortable putting their investment in volatile environments. Those saddled with overseeing the security apparatus in the country should please wake up and do more.

In solidarity with Ethiopian Airlines
I wish to commiserate and solidarize with Ethiopian Airlines over the recent crash of one of its Boeing 747 Max 8 aircraft which killed 153 people on board including two Nigerians. The crash is rather unfortunate to happen to an airline that has taken the safety and comfort of its passengers very seriously over the years. I am particularly pained because Ethiopian is my choice airline any time I travel outside Nigeria, and I have greatly enjoyed their services. The cabin crews are always friendly and accommodating, with relatively cheaper cost of flights. I urge the airline to take the incident as a challenge to even ensure more efficient service delivery and competence. Long live Ethiopian Airlines, Long live Nigeria-Ethiopia relations.

Take serious action against criminals
I observe that despite the hue and cry on insecurity and increase in criminal activities all over the country, there doesn’t really seem to be a concrete administrative will to effectively check the menace. I say this because I feel the law is a bit too liberal on criminals while Nigeria’s criminal justice system appears not to be very firm in tackling crime or dispensing justice. For instance, after criminals are arrested, there appears to be no serious carriage of justice as many of them are later left off the hook. This gives rise to jungle justice as people now realize that arresting them does little to check their nefarious activities. Criminals must be made to face the consequences of their actions and one way of doing this is to ensure the carriage of justice.

Castrate rapists as a deterrent
I wish to align with those who feel that severe punishment such as castration is meted on convicted rapists as a sure way of deterring people from the awful act. The notion among many is that usually, nothing really serious is done to those caught in the act, and so painful it is that rapists are left to walk the streets even after being caught. It is only when drastic actions are taken again perpetrators that the message would sink down properly, and one sure message is castration.
