Viral pneumonia is the leading cause of death in coronavirus disease (COVID-19) patients, Dr Bayo Olufunwa, a veteran veterinary doctor, has said.
He said there were treatment regimens for the prevention of COVID-19-related deaths which frontline health workers were not exploring.
He made the disclosure while unveiling his 30-page research findings titled, “Respiratory Alkalosis: The Unrecognized Villain.” The occasion also marked his 70th birthday.
He said to effectively stop deaths from COVID-19, health authorities should adopt a combination of drugs that would kill the virus and stop it from causing severe effects of difficulty in breathing.
Olufunwa explained that Vitamin C was suggested as a cure for COVID-19 “because of a dramatic improvement in patients’ condition when administered,” adding that further research is ongoing and expected to be unveiled in September.
“Vitamin C does not probably have effect on the virus directly, but it works in this circumstance, as replete in this write up, through counteracting the effect of hypocalcaemia, by bringing the blood PH to normal,” he said.
He advocated for daily administration of 4-12 grams of Vitamin C depending on the severity in 3 or 4 divided doses in patients with more than mild infection in order to prevent death, adding that other supporting treatments to reduce inflammation, particularly serious inflammation that result in Cytokine storm (over reaction of the body’s defense immune system to the virus), should be included.
He said: “Pneumonias all over the world will cease to be a significant cause of death. I am sure pneumonia deaths all over the world could reduce by more than 90% with the right treatment. This will be a positive fallout of COVID-19 pandemic.”
Speaking on Respiratory Alkalosis which he described as “the unrecognized villain”, the expert said the disease process “has remained largely unrecognised or poorly understood by most doctors all over the world which has caused millions of deaths in man and his animals, resulting in several millions of losses over several decades.”
He explained that respiratory alkalosis is a physiological derangement of both man and animals, which can lead to several symptoms which in its severe form leads to sudden death.
